Adroit- skillful
Professional sports players are adroit in the sport that they play.
Amicable- friendly
My friends dog was very amicable and would never bite anyone.
Averse- opposed, reluctant
Confederates were averse to letting slaves go free.
Belligerent- aggresively hostile; waging war
Generals become belligerent when their troops are attacked by enemies.
Benevolent- Charitable good nature
People that like to donate to the poor are benevolent.
Cursory- not thorough
Someone that tells a story without giving important details is cursory.
Duplicity- deliberate deceptiveness in behavior or speech.
It is considered duplicity when someone deceives someone else on purpose.
Extol- To praise lavishly.
The owner extolled the dog when it did a trick.
Feasible- Capable of being accomplished.
The task was feasible to many people.
Grimace- a contortion of the face expressive of pain, contempt, or disgust.
The boy's face grimaced when he tasted food that he did not like.
Holocaust- Great or total destruction.
It was known as holocaust when jews were being killed.
Impervious- incapable of being affected.
The boy that had no feelings was impervious to people making fun of him.
Impetus- force or energy associated with a moving body.
The car was impetus when it hit the person.
Jeopardy- danger or risk of loss.
The man was in jeopardy when he bet on the football game.
Meticulous- Extremely or excessively careful.
The mother was meticulous of her child.
Nostalgia- a bittersweet longing for things.
The lonely person was in nastalgia for a friend.
Quintessence- The purest most essential element of something.
Oxygen is the quintessence of what we breathe.
Retrogress- To move backward to an earlier or less complex condition.
When the student finished work early they were in retrogress.
Scrutinize- to examine with great care.
Detectives scrutinize crime scenes.
Tepid- moderately warm.
The room was tepid.
