Revision Strategy

On my next essay i will focus more on using literary terms while i explain the story.  I plan on making my essay more organized as well.  I will organize my essay by making paragraphs and writing the sentences that belong in each paragraph.

Vocabulary Fall List #6

Adroit- skillful
Professional sports players are adroit in the sport that they play.
Amicable- friendly
My friends dog was very amicable and would never bite anyone.
Averse- opposed, reluctant
Confederates were averse to letting slaves go free.
Belligerent- aggresively hostile; waging war
Generals become belligerent when their troops are attacked by enemies.
Benevolent- Charitable good nature
People that like to donate to the poor are benevolent.
Cursory- not thorough
Someone that tells a story without giving important details is cursory.
Duplicity- deliberate deceptiveness in behavior or speech.
It is considered duplicity when someone deceives someone else on purpose.
Extol- To praise lavishly.
The owner extolled the dog when it did a trick.
Feasible- Capable of being accomplished.
The task was feasible to many people.
Grimace- a contortion of the face expressive of pain, contempt, or disgust.
The boy's face grimaced when he tasted food that he did not like.
Holocaust- Great or total destruction.
It was known as holocaust when jews were being killed.
Impervious- incapable of being affected.
The boy that had no feelings was impervious to people making fun of him.
Impetus- force or energy associated with a moving body.
The car was impetus when it hit the person.
Jeopardy- danger or risk of loss.
The man was in jeopardy when he bet on the football game.
Meticulous- Extremely or excessively careful.
The mother was meticulous of her child.
Nostalgia- a bittersweet longing for things.
The lonely person was in nastalgia for a friend.
Quintessence- The purest most essential element of something.
Oxygen is the quintessence of what we breathe.
Retrogress- To move backward to an earlier or less complex condition.
When the student finished work early they were in retrogress.
Scrutinize- to examine with great care.
Detectives scrutinize crime scenes.
Tepid- moderately warm.
The room was tepid.

Vocabulary Fall List #5

Allude- to make casual reference
Dr. Preston alluded the vocabulary words in class today.
Clairvoyant- Having the ability to see or know things not perceptible to normal human senses.
Superheroes are clairvoyant.
Conclusive- putting an end to doubt.
The final sentence was conclusive to the debate.
Disreputable- being in or causing ill repute; disgraceful.
It was disreputable when the boy talked back to his elder.
Endemic-existing only among a certain group.
Different religions have endemic custom ways.
Exemplary-serving as a model or example worthy of imitation.
The dad was a huge exemplary to his children.
Fathom- To get to the bottom of something.
The detective was going to fathom the case.
Guile- deceitful slyness.
The friend was guile when he went behind his friend's back.
Integrity-uprightness of character; honesty.
The man was respectful so he had integrity.
Itinerary- a detailed account or diary of a journey.
The war veteran had an itinerary from WWII.
Misconstrue-to misunderstand.
Students that don't pay attention in class tend to misconstrue the lesson.
Obnoxious-strongly offensive, rude.
The loud girl was very obnoxious to the boy that was trying to study in the library.
Placate-to appease the anger of.
In order to stop the angry boy from talking his friend placated him.
Placid- quiet; calm.
The baby finally stopped crying and was now placid.
Plagiarism- to steal or copy the idea of someone else's writing.
The student used plagiarism on his essay from the author's summary about his book.
Potent-having great authority.
The teacher had potent of the classroom.
Pretext- a specious excuse or explanation.
The boy gave pretext for why he didn't do his homework.
Protrude- to push outward.
The man was trying to protrude the couch to the other side of the room.
Stark- severe difficult.
The test everyone got an F on was stark.
Superficial- not real or genuine.
The idea that if you break a mirror you will have bad luck is superficial.

Melancholy- gloomy; sad.
After losing the football game the players had a melancholy attitude.

Exemplary- serving as a model or example worthy of imitation.
The dad was an exemplary to his son.

Peculiar- odd or strange.
My friend's bulldog has a peculiar face.

Dread- To anticipate with great fear or anxiety.
The boy was dreading to go up on stage in front of the crowd.

Bough- a limb of a tree.
The bough had wierd twists.

Pious- Practiced in the name of religion.
In church people were pious.

Communion- The act of sharing.
There was a nice communion at a potluck.

Auditor- one who audits accounts.
The teacher was an auditor of the students.

Multitude- a large crowd or gathering.
There was a multitude at the concert.

Eloquence- The quality of being persuasive.
The friend was using eloquence to make the boy do something he didn't want to do.

Despair- To lose or abandon hope.
The kid was in despair when he found out Santa wasn't real.

Hoary- Ancient
The glass bowl was hoary.

AHA!

Today in class I learned stuff that I haven't thought about before.  I learned that i learn thousands of new things every single day.  I also learned that signs lead to symbols such as smoke will make you think that there is a fire.  People learn many new things and understand things such as symbols and signs.
