Literature Analysis #1

The Hunger games is a book about a girl named Katniss who fights in a deadly competition.  She comes from a place called Pandora and volunteers to fight in the competition in order to protect her sister named Primrose.  Katniss fights alondside a boy named Peeta.  They adventure through the area of the Hunger Games while trying to stay alive longer than the other competitors.  She uses a bow to fight in honor of her father.  In the end they end up winning together. The author creates a whole new world by describing the animals and creatures in the book.  The theme that the auther was trying to give to the reader was that life can through many obstacles in your way and not everything in your life happens as you plan them to but you have to keep fighting through until the end.  The author uses foreshadowing when he talks about Katniss losing her father.  She uses imagery to describe the creatures that live in the Hunger Games.  The author uses diction to create a sense of suspense for the reader and uses syntax to understand the type of mood the author is trying to give such as when Katniss is talking about how her father died.  When the author talks about all the dangerous features it foreshadows by letting the reader feel like it will be a tragic ending.  Katniss is a round character throughout the book because she faces many obstacles and has many characteristics that the author gives her by giving many details about her earlier life.

My Strategy for Vocabulary

I plan on studying the words on my own.  I do not work well with a partner because i always seem to lose focus.  When i study by myself I am concentrated on the words and do not go off subject.  I plan on looking at 20 words each night this week.  I don't only plan on looking at the words I also plan to memorize them so that they will not be hard to recognize on the midterm.

Revision Strategy

On my next essay i will focus more on using literary terms while i explain the story.  I plan on making my essay more organized as well.  I will organize my essay by making paragraphs and writing the sentences that belong in each paragraph.
